George Hamilton

George (Buddy)was born on August 8 1921 in Port Alberni British Columbia, the son of George Angus (American Indian) and Lily Hamilton (Irish) of Port Alberni. They were married on August 8 1908 in Port Alberni. He had one illegal child with Mrs. Helen Watson of Oso, Washington USA. His brother was Clifford Hamilton and his sisters were Mrs. Winnifred Davies, Mrs. Grace Watts, Mrs. Doris Thomas, Mrs. Violet Charlie and Ruby and Pearl Hamilton. Their other brother Edward Lloyd Hamilton was already deceased on June 18 1933.
He was a fisherman and member of the United Church He completed Grade VIII at the Alberni Indian Residential School at 15 years. He played basketball, football and baseball. He liked in his spare time shows and dances and reading. He was a member of the First Nation Tsehat tribe.
He enlisted on March 12 1943 in Vancouver and he went on February 24 1944 thereafter overseas to the UK. He went on July 6 1944 then to France and he was afterwards involved with the further advance and fierce battles of his regiment through NW France and Belgium.
George was severely wounded during the battle of the Leopold Canal in Belgium and he was therefore transported by ship to an UK hospital and later to Canada.
George died on Friday January 5 1945 age 23 unfortunately of these wounds while on a hospital train en route to the Pacific Command in Canada.
